“We do this ’til we free us” is a collection of interviews, speeches and writings by and with abolitionist activist Mariame Kaba. In beautiful and poignant language Kaba explores community, the radical antiracism that ought to underpin a truly abolitionist politics, the imagination necessary to fight for a better world and what that world might look like. Never egocentric but always self aware, Kaba traces some of the most important questions surrounding justice, accountability, punishment and collective organising. “We do this ’til we free us” is as useful and inspiring for someone interacting with abolitionist politics for the first time, as it is for seasoned activists. To quote Kaba: “It is time for a jailbreak of the imagination to make the impossible possible” – perhaps, this book is an opportunity for such a jailbreak.
