We generally require two people to be on site for every event and so may ask for a fee to cover this which start from £13.50 an hour.
We like to make our space as accessible to many grassroots and non-profit organisations as possible so if you’re unable to afford these costs then please do get in touch to discuss.
The Library is located at: The Sojourner Truth Community Centre, 161 Sumner Road, London, SE15 6JL
Fill out this form if you are interested in hiring out one of our spaces. We generally need at least 2 weeks lead time to organise a hire. Last minute requests may be considered but there is no guarantee we can get back to you in time.
Catering
Tea/Coffee: We provide this in-house at the cost of £1 per head per round.
We will provide cups for events so there is no need to provide disposable take-away cups.
If you are having food in the Library hall or Conference Room, we ask that you clean up any leftovers before you leave, for conservation purposes.
University/Organisation Tours
Discover more about The Feminist Library with a tour of the Library and its collections!
A member of our team will tell you all about how the Library was created and its history, detailing our various homes over the years and the changes the Feminist Library has gone through. Join us for an opportunity to learn how our collective functions horizontally and what kind of things happen at the Feminist Library. You will get to look at our unique collection of periodicals, zines and wide-ranging texts through varying feminist movements and discuss feminist issues with us.
To book a tour of the library please fill out this form.
Please note we are a mainly volunteer-run organisation so we will probably need a few weeks’ notice to be able to arrange a tour. Be aware that if you ask for a tour during our opening hours you will be sharing the space with members of our community.
Library tours start from £200 and typically last around 1.5 hours (including time for browsing the collection). This fee goes toward maintaining the physical space of the Library, caring for our collections and offering a living-wage rate to your tour guide for their work. Payments must be made in advance, please refer to the cancellation policy below
We also offer a zine-making workshop as an addition to the tour of the Library. Workshops start from £50. Payments must be made in advance, please refer to the cancellation policy below
If you are looking for a specialised tour/workshop, please describe what you are after as best as you can so we can let you know whether we can accommodate your request. Please note that customised tours/workshops will cost more than our standard rate, as your lead will need to spend extra time preparing material for you.
We don’t recommend having more than 30 people in the space.
We offer a solidarity rate to other collectives and grassroot organisations, as well as local schools. Please email us at events@feministlibrary.co.uk to discuss this.
Filming and Exhibitions at the Library
We are happy to discuss your using the space to film documentaries/short films/etc. or to put on an exhibition. Our Events team have experience facilitating both of these, please email them to discuss at events@feministlibrary.c0.uk .
Payment and Cancellation Policy
We ask that you pay the fee for your tour/workshop/hire in advance. If you must cancel or rebook, please contact us at least 24 hours before your booking, for tours and workshops, and at least 72 hours before any hires. Cancellations within the 24-hour / 72-hour window for your booking or no-shows without notice may result in us charging you for the full amount.
