Join New Internationalist for an evening of discussion to collectively think through solutions to chronic loneliness and social withdrawal. 

Our May-June issue on the crisis of loneliness looks at the problem through the lenses of work, love, digital cultures and social marginalization. 

With the increasing intensification of work, decline of ‘third spaces’ and the reshaping of technology in the interests of Big Tech (and not the people), rest, recreation and stress-free, creative introspection are becoming harder to carve out time for. 

We ask, what kind of social structures do we need to encourage meaningful social connections?

• André Anderson: André is the Headmaster of Freedom & Balance: an art college for the artist in everyone. Current Curriculum: Authors of the Estate. A curriculum in which students explore the question: ‘How do we turn our neighbourhood into a publishing house?’
• Dr Samara Linton: Samara (she/her) is an award-winning writer and multidisciplinary content producer. Her work includes The Colour of Madness: Mental Health and Race in Technicolour (2022) and Diane Abbott: The Authorised Biography (2020).
• Micha Frazer-Carroll: Micha (she/her) is a columnist at the Independent. She has previously edited for gal-dem, the Guardian and Blueprint, a mental health magazine that she founded. Micha has also written for Vogue, HuffPost, Huck and Dazed. She is invested in using journalism to challenge systems of power.
