SEEN: feminist critiques on women’s invisibilised labour

June 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us at The Feminist Library for an interactive workshop exploring feminist critiques of women’s invisibilised labour through conversation, visual art, poetry, and reflective exercise.

The workshop will showcase and discuss work from the artbook SEEN, which was created by Roos Saalbrink together with five feminist artists Aida Namukose, Clariss Rufaro Masiya, Halina Rauber-Baio aka Juno Algaravia, Kashushu, and Olusayo ‘ajet’ Ajetunmobi to record global herstories, challenging the current global social-economic system of oppression and exploitation of women. The powerful visual and written artwork in SEEN is reflective of the complexities of intersecting discriminations of gender, race, class, sexuality, geography, ability and our dreams for a future where we all can be seen and valued simply for who we are.

The workshop will be led by Roos Saalbrink, an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity at LSE and the Global Lead on Economic Justice and Public Services at ActionAid International. Roos will also be joined virtually by two of the artists who co-created the artbook Juno Algaravia and Clariss Rufaro Masiya, as well as London-based artist and activist Raju Rage.

The event is co-hosted by the Feminist Library and the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity programme based at the London School of Economics – LSE. The workshop is free and open to all, but registration is required. Please note that spaces are limited.

* Guiding feminist principles and values: As this is a collective space, everyone is responsible for engaging in self-care, safety, solidarity, trust, and respect to enable respectful conversation. You can see the feminist engagement principles and values from the Women’s Rights Caucus and ActionAid’s Ten Principles of Feminist Leadership. Please have a look at these if you can.
