Butch Lineages watches Stud Life

November 28, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

It’s the end of our first full year of Butch Lineages, and our first year at @thefeministlibrary . Wow! To mark the occasion, we are sitting down to watch a UK Lesbian classic: Stud Life. We watched clips of this film in an early session back in 2022, and Campbell has given us the blessing to screen it alongside his short film Desire.

Stud Life depicts a particular time and place in British dyke culture. The ties, the snapbacks, the little sweaters. It’s a real portrait of a moment in our history, and stands out as one of the few works in the UK that names and focuses on Butches and Studs, the two terms used interchangeably in the film.

Come down with some snacks to watch the film with us, and discuss the many questions it raises for Butch/Femme culture, about misogyny, sex work, Stud identity, friendship with gay men, and more.

Butch Lineages is a research-social group by and for Butches & other masculine lesbians to talk about our experiences. All Butches and masc dykes are welcome, femmes and other queer women can come along as guests.
