Butch Lineages: Hijab Butch Blues

August 29, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In a world where being queer and Muslim is seen as a paradox, where do we go to find the story of Muslim butches? Like the story of Hajar, Lamya H. interperses stories of the Quran to illuminate spaces of lesbianism, gender nonconformity, and Islamic community in Hijab Butch Blues. This month, we’ll take Lamya’s methodology to examine a fragmented queer past and invite participants to think about how the term ‘butch’ fits in a queer Muslim context, in what way we relate to butchness, and how we can embrace a queer present. This is a closed session for queer Muslim women and queer Muslim nonbinary people (this includes trans Muslims, studs, mascs, and otherwise gender nonconforming Muslims).
