Who we are

We are an intersectional, abolitionist, trans-inclusive feminist community space and library. We have been running since 1975 through the hard work and dedication of volunteers, without any consistent core funding from donors or governing bodies. Our aim is to foster a space of freedom, care, and radical education away from the institution, whilst also protecting and maintaining one of the biggest archives of feminist thinking in Europe.

The collective

The Feminist Library is run by a non-hierarchical collective made up of about 20 volunteers, paid workers and trustees. Through trial and error, we as a collective use consensus decision-making to organise the day-to-day running of the library, policies and core aims. This is done through regular monthly meetings, discussions over Slack, and biscuit bribery.

Most of the members of the collective are also involved in one or more of our working groups. These groups are volunteer run, and develop the more creative aspects of the Library such as collections, events and bookshop.

If you are interested in getting involved in either the collective or the working groups, please read our community policy below, and if this aligns with you visit our volunteer page for next steps.
