‘HerStories’ is The Feminist Library’s new English language book club, which we launched in June.
For our August meetup we will be discussing – “Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body” by Roxane Gay. As we follow an intimate, fervent memoir of the author’s relationship with food and her own body, we will be looking at themes of body-image, identity, and the effect of the personal in the public domain.
TW: themes of sexual assault and disordered eating
You don’t need to finish the book – or even enjoy it! Join us for a fun, friendly evening of excited book chat with like-minded people.
Until we complete the move to the Feminist Library’s new home, the Sojourner Truth Centre in Peckham, we will be hosting the club nearby in the community at the fantastic Peckham Pelican. There will be a great selection of coffee, drinks and snacks available to purchase at the venue if you would like, but there’s absolutely no obligation to buy anything to attend the club.
Peckham Pelican is ground floor and level throughout with an accessible toilet. If you have any access concerns please message us.
The nearest train stations are Peckham Rye and Queen’s Road Peckham. A multitude of buses stop nearby including 12, 36, 136, 171, 343, 436.
** In line with the library’s ethos and community policy, HerStories is an anti-sectarian, intersectional, trans & non-binary inclusive book club, where everyone is welcome to join.
