Feminism and Tech Day

Are you interested in getting more into tech but don’t know where to start? Have you always been one of those women who thought that ‘I’m just not techy’ but are fed up of always hearing yourself say that, and want to put your skills to the test? Then join us for this exciting event, meet women who have done it before, and try your skills at building a blog or a bot in just over an hour!
11:00 – 12:30 – What Does it Mean to be a Techy Woman at the Feminist Library – Introductory panel and discussion with Agnieszka Grabowicz + Iza Sowula + Magda Oldziejewska

1:15 – 2:45PM – How We Got into Tech (Ourselves) – Panel and Discussion with 23 Code Street’s Anisah Osman Britton, Inspiring Women’s Laura de Silva & Geovation’s Gauri Kangai & Laura Alderson
2:45 – 3:00PM – Tea Break
3:00 – 4:30 PM – This Girl Can – Make your Own Digital Zine / Create Your Very Own Bot / Intro to Blog Creation with WordPress – Practical workshops
4:30 – 5:00PM – Tea Break
5:00 – 6:30PM – Balancing Tech – The Tech Industry Entry Barriers & the Women Breaking them – Film screening & panel discussion with filmmaker Shwetal Shah + tech experts Emma Loveridge, Huma Shah and Henna Zamurd-Butt (Media Diversified).
*We have a few laptops available at the Library, but we won’t have enough to provide one for everyone, so if you could bring your own with you on the day, we would really appreciate it.
**The event is free but the Library is completely independent and largely funded by donations, so suggested donation to the Library is £5 for the day.
***Please bring your own lunch. Tea, coffee & snacks will be available at the Library.
