The Feminist Library is closed on bank holidays

Because we like a long weekend too!

Always check our opening hours to see if we are open, but as a general rule, we are closed on bank holidays!

Volunteers open-training-mixer day – Sun 15th April at 3pm

we are going to start at 3pm with a little introduction about the library, on where we are and where we are going which I think will be useful to everyone.

we are then going to proceed with general instructions for volunteers, housekeeping and general procedures.

Cathy from the collection group will be there to explain where we are with the cataloguing project and explain what needs to be done next,
while I will be there to talk about other roles available and projects we would like to start working on.

After all this hard work, we can all sit down and have a chat – for this I would invite all of you to bring a snack and/or a drink to share for our mixer at the end of the day

Spring break

The Feminist Library is taking a well deserved break between Thursday 5th and Tuesday 10th April inclusive.

This means that the April session of the Writers’ space has been moved ahead to Saturday 31st March 2012 and you can come and visit the library then.

The library will re-open on Thursday 12th April with our usual opening times.

Feminist Library opening at 4.30 today!

Apologies for the late notice, but the volunteer that was meant to open the library today has fallen victim of the flu, so the library will have to open a bit later than usual.

But as a bonus it will stay open until 7pm, so why not visit us after work today? We can tell you all the things we’ve been up to for International Women’s Day!

Million Women Rise with the Feminist Library (3rd March)

Once again the library will join Million Women Rise for a fantastic day of marching and chanting across central London, rallying in Trafalgar Square (where we are also having a stall, so a chance for you to come by and say hello!) and possibly some good partying later on in central London.

We would love nothing more than to have you march with us under the now famous vintage red banner – so if you would like to march with us, come and meet us in front of Selfridges, at the corner of Oxford Street and Orchard Street at 12.30 on Saturday 3rd March (map).

Writers Space and discussion group at the Feminist Library

After the first 6 successful months of the Writers Space, the collective has now decided to replace the 4-5pm Feminist Fiction and Poetry reading group with a discussion group. The new programme will now be:

1.30 – 5pm Open writer’s space – for women to come and use the library space to write in the company of other feminist women.

2pm – 4pm Writing exercises (for those who wish to take part). Please bring any

favourites, ideas and examples!

4pm – 5pm NEW! Feminist fiction, non-fiction and poetry discussion group. Interesting

consciousness raising discussion stimulated by sharing about what we are

currently reading.

Al always, the ‘Writers Space’ is for feminist writers, poets, students and all others who would like to come and write in company of like minded people and be inspired by the feminist books surrounding us. It will run the first Saturday of each month between 1.30-5pm.

Please come to write, come to attend the reading group, or both!

New ways of helping the Feminist Library: Just Text Giving!

There is an easy new way to support the Feminist Library and help us take care of our amazing collection.

You might have heard of Just Text Giving - this is a programme sponsored by Vodafone (we know!), that allows you to make donations to the Feminist Library simply by sending a text message.

The brilliant news is that this comes at no cost to you (other than the money you are donating!) and that we get 100% of your donation. After your donation, you will receive a link to a Gift Aid form, which will make your donation worth 25% more - we have tested this and it doesn’t take more than 2 minutes in total!

So let’s do it together:

Take your phone, and simply text ” FLIB35 £10″ to 70070 – and you are done!

You can only donate a maximum of £10, but you can do it as many times as you want, and choose any amount between £1 and £10 – so why not tie this up with your morning coffee, buy one for yourself and donate £2 to the library!

Volunteers wanted for the Collections team!

Are you a library/archives student looking for experience in a radical library setting, or a part-

time or retired librarian who is keen to use your skills to help us with lots of exciting

projects?

The Feminist Library has survived for most of its 35 years due to committed

volunteers. We house an amazing collection of second wave material which we want

to preserve while continuing to collect contemporary material, and we have created a

firm activist standing in the current feminist community. Come along and be part of

it.

We need help with completing the task of getting the collection onto our online

catalogue, and with sorting duplicates and donations, including a recent large bequest

from a leading academic in the gender and education field.

We are particularly looking for people with experience of the following, but all levels

of interest are most welcome:

Classification schemes and cataloguing
Archive experience
Knowledge of secondhand/rare books
Stock management
IT website/blog archiving skills

Writers’ space at the Feminist Library

Calling all feminist writers and readers!

‘Writers Space’ is for feminist writers, poets, students and all others who would like to come and write in company of like minded people and be inspired by the feminist books surrounding us. It will run the first Saturday of each month between 1.30-5pm.

I am pleased to say the Feminist fiction and poetry reading group shall also be running between 4pm – 5pm!

If you have a favourite book or poem that you would like to share something about, and/or an idea for a novel or poetry for a group read, please bring it with you.

Please come to write, come to attend the reading group, or both!
