To coincide with the nation-wide commemoration of #Vote100 this year, Aurora Metro Arts and Media Charity will be touring a pop-up exhibition celebrating some of the amazing women who through their visual arts, and plays helped to shape and further the cause of women’s suffrage 100 years ago. The exhibition will be at the Feminist Library, London 3 – 31 July
The exhibition draws on material that was unearthed for two Aurora Metro’s publications, Art, Theatre and Women’s Suffrage and Votes for Women and other plays.
Art, Theatre and Women’s Suffrage by Irene Cockroft and Susan Croft is a non-fiction book which plays tribute to the organisations and progressive women and men, who used the news media, the visual arts, music and theatre as part of the long campaign for women’s suffrage. http://aurorametro.com/newsite/art-theatre-and-womens-suffrage-2/
Votes for Women and other plays edited by Susan Croft features plays performed as part of the Actresses Franchise League, who set up their own theatre companies and engaged with the battle for the vote by writing and performing campaigning plays all over the country. http://aurorametro.com/newsite/products-page/plays/votes-for-women/
